Stark county is located in the West Region and uses Dickinson as its county seat. The county population on July 1, 1999, was 22,490, a decrease of 342 over the 1990 census.
Significant features of the county include Patterson Lake just southwest of Dickinson, Dickinson State University and I-94 which bisects the county in an east-to-west direction.
On the National Register of Historic Places is the eclectic Gerhardt Octagonal Pig House to be found in Gladstone about 15 miles east of Dickinson.
