Bloomfield is located in Knox County, off of Hwy 84 between Verdigre and Hartington, near the Santee Indian Reservation. The population estimate for July 1, 1998 was 1,139, a decrease of 42 since 1990. Bloomfield has been named from its early existence as "The Busy City." This town serves as an agriculture and related services to a 30 plus mile trade area. The Knox County area surrounding Bloomfield is a hunter's paradise, featuring some of the finest deer hunting in the state of Nebraska. This is coupled with an abundance of other wildlife featuring pheasant, turkey, quail, squirrels, and rabbits. Gavins Point Dam and Lewis and Clark Lake on the Missouri River are located 20 miles north of Bloomfield and feature fishing, boating, picnicking, hiking, camping and a variety of other outdoor activities.
