Oshkosh is located in Garden County (of which it is the county seat) 43 miles northwest of Ogallala between Lisco and Lewellen along Highway 26 on the banks of the North Platte River near Ash Hollow State Historic Park and the Blue River.
In 1885 Henry Gumaer and John Robinson drove the first herd of cattle to the area, building headquarters on land now part of the Garden County Airport. In 1889 a two-story structure was built on Main Street for a general store, post office, and hotel.
Oshkosh has some of the best fowl hunting in the state, as well as a variety of fishing. Other attractions for this community include: Oshkosh Country Club, Oshkosh Swimming Pool, The Oshkosh Ballpark and the Crescent Lake National Wildlife Refuge.
