In 1965, Hunterdon County formed the 55 billion gallon Round Valley Reservoir by constructing two dams and a dike that closed off the gaps in the horseshoe shaped valley. This reservoir is now a vital part in the water supply system that delivers 225 million gallons of water per day to cnetral New Jersey.
Covering 2,000 acres, approximately 180 feet deep, and with the holding capacity of 55 billion gallons of water, this reservoir is the deepest lake in new Jersey, stocked with lake trout, and has a perfect swimming area that was created by an earthen dam, separating it from the main part of the reservoir.
Swimmers, boaters, fishermen, picnickers, hikers, campers, skiiers, and sledders, are all attracted to this beautiful recreation area. It is also one of the only parks that offers wilderness camping that is reached only by hiking or boating.
