Brentwood is located in Suffolk County and is part of the Nassau-Suffolk, New York metropolitan area. It is in the Southern Region of the state. It was named after place in Essex, England and was the site of Pilgrim State Hospital, once the world's largest mental institution; now known as Pilgrim Psychiatric Center.
