Lewiston is located in Niagra County just north of Niagra Falls along Interstate 190 on the banks of the Niagra River near Joseph Davis State Park in the Western Region of the state. A tramway, built by the British, may have been America's first railway. Lewiston claims to be the birthplace of the word "cocktail".

It is part of the Buffalo-Niagara Falls, New York metro area.
