American Montessori Society was founded and supported in 1960. Montessori education is poised to play a significant part in informing contemporary educational practice. Because of its global approach, Montessori is uniquely suited to public schools, where children of many backgrounds are grouped together. It is also appropriate for classes in which the student-teacher ratio is high because children learn at an early age to work independently.
