Butler is located in the Northeast Region of the state, in Richland County about 45 miles northeast of Columbus, 15 miles north-northeast of Mt. Vernon and 10 miles south-southeast of Mansfield. The population estimate for July 1, 1998 was 924, a decrease of 44 since 1990.
