Nestled among tall, sheltering maples, the Inn with its native sandstone exterior and terraced grounds recalls a more gracious time in the tradition of an English country house.
The current chapter in the property's history opened in 1924, when coal magnate Jones constructed the Granville Inn of native sandstone quarried from his nearby country estate, Bryn Du Farm. Designed by Frank Packard of Columbus on the model of an English county house, the Inn was extensively refurbished in the 1950's by Jones' daughter, Sallie Jones Sexton, who operated the Inn until 1976.
For many years, just to the east, the Inn also maintained the sporty 18 hole golf course that famed golf architect Donald Ross laid out for Jones in the mid-twen ties. Now under new ownership and management, the Granville Inn is restoring old charm and beauty as it continues to delight visitors with a taste of the past within central Ohio's "New England" village.
