Macedonia is located in northeastern Ohio in Summit County 40 miles south-southeast of Cleveland along Highway 82 near the Brandy Wine Ski Center. The population estimate for July 1, 1998 was 9,191, an increase of 1,682 since 1990.
The history of the town goes back to 1824 when the first log cabin was erected and, when a church was built in 1835, the community was on its way to viability. The Inn in town served as a stop for stage coach travelers.
The town's name was originally "The Corners" but, as students from Western Reserve College in Hudson were beckoned to preach on Sundays, these theologians began using the biblical passage, "Come over into Macedonia and help us." This, it is believed, was responsible for the name change.
