Mt. Gilead is located in central Ohio in Morrow County (of which it is the county seat) about 35 miless north of Columbus along Highway 95 and 61. The population estimate for July 1, 1998 was 3,085, an increase of 239 since 1990.

Mt. Gilead State Park and Mt. Gilead Lakes are just east of town while Delaware Lake and Delaware State Park are about 15 miles to the southwest for those seeking outdoor recreation.

The town invites golfers to give Pine Lakes Golf Course a try. The facility is a public 18-hole layout built in 1940 and has a par of 71.
