Ohio Chatauqua is a celebration of the state's storied past. The audience is treated to a "living history lesson" by actors and actresses portraying individuals who have had a profound impact on the course of the state's direction. Examples include John Chapman also known as "Johnny Appleseed" and Chief John Logan. In addition to the acting, music and entertainment, education, and audience interaction are part of the package in an exciting cultural event the entire community can enjoy.
About a half-dozen cities are chosen each year to host the event, which is usually held on a "4-day weekend" beginning in mid-June. It then moves to the next town the following weekend. The event is known for its huge distinctive red and white striped canopy to help keep the weather at bay.
