Wooster, founded in 1807, is located in northeastern Ohio in Wayne County (of which it is the county seat) 30 miles south-southwest of Cleveland amd 30 miles east of Mansfield. The population estimate for July 1, 1998 was 23,609, an increase of 1,182 since 1990.

The town is home to the College of Wooster, a Liberal Arts institution of about 1,800 students founded in 1866.

Recreation in the area includes activities in Mohican State Park 25 miles southwest of town. In addition, L. C. Boles Memorial Golf Course and Spruce Tree Golf Course each offer the public a 9-hole layout while Wooster Country Club, an 18-hole course, offers members of other clubs a chance to shoot a round with them.
