Hardin county is located in northwestern Ohio and uses Kenton as its county seat. The county population on July 1, 1999, was 31,652, an increase of 541 over the 1990 census. Some of the assets of the county include Ohio Northern University in Ada (northwest); Wilson Sporting Goods Company in Ada, begun in 1913 and one of the world's leading manufacturers of sports equipment and focuses on making technologically-advanced products which help the average player play better; the Hardin Co. Courthouse, one of the largest courthouses built in Ohio around the turn of the century at a cost of $275,000 and the Hardin County Armory, the oldest and most unique Armory in Ohio in that its architecture accurately represents the late Victorian Richardsonian Romanesque style.
