Holmes county is located in northeastern Ohio and calls Millersburg its county seat. The county population on July 1, 1999, was 38,295, an increase of 5,446 over the 1990 census.
This rural county was created in 1824 from parts of Wayne, Coshocton and Tuscarawas counties and is the center of the world’s largest Amish population.
Highlights of the year include the "Country Cookin' Hog Roast & BBQ" in early August, the Amish Culture Festival & Antique Engine Show also in early August, the Annual Winesburg Fall Gathering in the northeast corner of the county and held in mid-September and the Apple Dumpling Festival in early October.
