Ottawa county, with its 107 miles of shoreline, is located in northwestern Ohio on the shores of Lake Erie as well as Sandusky Bay with Port Clinton serving as the county seat. The county population on July 1, 1999, was 41,281, an increase of 1,252 over the 1990 census.
About 30 sites in the county are listed in the National Register of Historic Places including the Catawba Island Wine Company just ouside of Port Clinton, the Green Island Light and the 352' tall Perry's Victory and International Peace Memorial near Put-in-Bay, Marblehead Lighthouse and the War of 1812 Battle Site at Mineyahta-on-the-Bay.
Other county attractions include the African Safari Wildlife Park in Port Clinton, Oak Point State Park on South Bass Island and the Magee Marsh Wildlife Area near Oak Harbor.
