Pontotoc county is located in southeastern Oklahoma with Ada serving as the county seat.
The only major waterway in the county is the Canadian River which forms the entire northern line.
Historic sites within the county include the Wintersmith Park Historic District and the Pontotoc county courthouse in Ada and the Roff Armory in Roff.
Advanced education is available through East Central University in Ada.
The county population on July 1, 1999, was 34,686, an increase of 567 over the 1990 census.
