This museum is housed in Ottawa's oldest stone building, the Commissariat of Lt. Col. John By, Royal Engineers. Built in 1827, the Commissariat was the treasury and a storehouse during the building of the Rideau Canal. There are four major exhibits that are displayed at the museum: the 1850 Bytown Kitchen, the Shanty Exhibit, the Toystore Exhibit, and the Victorian Parlour Exhibit.
