This museum complex features eight buildings depicting human habitation in Grey County between 1815 and 1930. In the period 1967-1972, the log house, log cabin, blacksmith shop and storage building were added to the site. In 1978, a large timber framed agricultural barn was added, followed by the restoration of an Ontario style farmhouse in 1982-84. In 1992, a replica of an early to mid 20th century rural automotive garage was completed. In 1995-96 an extension to the Museum's storage and workshop building was completed for the purpose of housing two steam traction engines offered to the Museum's collection. In the same period, work was begun on the restoration and reconstruction of a C.1910 sawmill. The Museum's collection has been, almost in its entirety, donated by present and former residents of the County of Grey and City of Owen Sound. A large selection of the collection is currently on exhibit in the Museum's three galleries and seven period buildings.
