Originally called The Mills because of the sawmill and flour mill built here in 1832. Many restored buildings can be found in town, including a 1907 Canadian Pacific Railway Station, an 1875 Town Hall, and an Opera Hall which still offers summer theatre and other cultural events. There are numerous galleries, crafts, and antique shops in the area. Orangeville is located on the headwaters of the Credit River. It is also at the center of Headwaters Country where visitors can enjoy boating, fishing, bicycling, and horseback riding. In winter, snowmobiling, cross-country skiing, and downhill skiing are popular.
