The city is at the center of Canada's automotive industry, with more than one-third of the populace working for General Motors and other related industries. The 'City in Motion' started in the automotive industry 1907 with the building of carriages by the McLaughlin Motor Car Company. The city's history and cultural diversity is depicted in a collection of 18 wall murals. Guided walking tours are available in the summer.
