Waterloo is a center for industry and leading-edge technology. The city is home to two insurance company headquarters and two universities -- the University of Waterloo and Wilfrid Laurier University. Waterloo is a `twin city` to Kitchener, and the communities celebrate Oktoberfest in early October, the second largest such celebration in the world. Waterloo was originally named Ebytown and was settled in the early 1800's by German immigrants and Mennonite farmers. Today the town has one of the largest Mennonite populations in Canada.
