Covered Bridge Society of Oregon

Preserving Oregon's Heritage for the Future

Search Sherwood Oregon
In the 1930s there were more than 300 covered bridges in the state. By the 1940s the number had dropped to less than 240, then to fewer than 140 in the 1950s. Today there are only 53 covered bridges in Oregon, but this is still the largest concentration west of the Missisippi.

The Covered Bridge Society of Oregon is dedicated to preserving and restoring these covered bridges and promotes the study of their history and construction.

Founded in 1978, the society is a non-profit organization and the only covered bridge society in the western United States. If you would like to join the Covered Bridge Society of Oregon, dues are $15 per calendar year. Membership includes a subscription to the quarterly "Bridge Tender."
