This state park, located near the California border, invites visitors to stroll along the Winchuck River estuary, where seals, sea lions, and a variety of birds abound. Crissey Field State Recreation Site provides the first beach access available for those crossing the California/Oregon border.
Historically, the area served as a coastal air strip and refueling station for reconnaissance flights patrolling the northern California and southern Oregon beaches during World War II. Remnants of the original bunkers can still be seen, with a little patience and searching.
