A little north of the northernmost access road to Cannon Beach, high on a hill, you can stop and enjoy the view of the Pacific Ocean. A historical marker on the spot tells something about local history. This is a great place for a snapshot, but if you have time, go down into Cannon Beach to Ecola State Park, which closer to the action.
Tillamook Rock, which can be seen 1.2 miles offshore, was the site of a lighthouse from about 1880 until it was decommissioned in 1957. It is now a private columbarium as well as a wildlife refuge. There is no public access.
