A stay at a fire lookout is like sitting on top of the world. Perched high up on a peak, fire lookout towers are generally 30 or more feet off the ground. The quiet is the loudest you ever heard. Visitors are overwhelmed with a sense of complete removal from normal life.
Made available on a limited basis for short term rental by the U.S.D.A. Forest Service - Oregon. Many lookouts are still committed to active summer duty, to house scouts who locate fires during the high fire-risk season.
