Gin Lin, a Chinese mining operator, reportedly took up to $2 million in gold from his claims in the Applegate Valley. The results of his extensive hydraulic operation can be seen from the Gin Lin Trail, 15 miles south of Jacksonville.

To reach the trail, follow Upper Applegate Road to Palmer Creek Road just beyond the McKee Bridge. Locate the trailhead near the south side of Flumet Flat Campground.
