The teacher education program at Western Oregon University was recently selected in a national study as one of five exemplary programs in the nation in using teaching and learning strategies effectively to enhance student success. They award 55 percent of the undergraduate degrees in teacher education in the Oregon University System. The Regional Resource Center on Deafness is located at Western. For 25 years, the center has helped to prepare individuals for various professions in the field of deafness and provided referral services not only for the entire state of Oregon but also for the states of Alaska, Washington and Idaho. Some of the most highly respected programs in deaf education in the nation are located at Western Oregon University. WOU is located in Polk County and has an enrollment of about 4,000. Student housing is available for 1,057.
