The airport is conveniently situated about three miles from the heart of the John Day-Canyon City area at an elevation of 3,700 feet. It features two runways measuring 4500 feet and 3500 feet.
During the summer of 1996, construction will often close one runway, but the aiport intends to remain open from 7 to 7 every day with one runway in operation. The airport offers visitors the use of a courtesy vehicle to get to town for overnight lodging or dining. Airport personnel can also prearrange transportation and lodging.
The airport is open year-round. Tie-down fees are $3 to $5 per night.
