Powder River

Search Visit Oregon

The Powder River flows through mountainous terrain in northeast Oregon and eventually joins the Snake River. It got its name from an Indian word meaning sandy or powdery ground, which describes the soil along the stream.

The northernmost point of the river is the town of North Powder. It enters the Snake near Richland.
