Redmond is located in Deschutes County (of which is the county seat), 15 miles north of Bend along US Highway 97, at the Hwy 126 junction. The Deschutes River, Tumalo State Park and Cline Falls Sate Park are nearby. Surrounded by an abundance of juniper trees, Redmond is an industrial and lumbering center in Central Oregon. Operation Santa Claus, a ranch that raises reindeer used by many communities during the Christmas season, is 2 miles west on Highway 126. Outdoor enthusiasts flock to Redmond for the many recreational opportunities. The majestic spires and craggy palisades of Smith Rock State Park are just north of Redmond. World-class Rock Climbing adventures await both the neophyte and the experienced climber. There are also seven miles of hiking trails that follow the Crooked River and wind up in canyon walls on top of ridges. Nearby lakes include Billy Chinook, Suttle, and Blue lakes are popular with anglers. The City of Redmond was incorporated on July 6, 1910.
