Steens Mountain is nearly 10,000 feet high and over 30 miles long, an enormous fault block that rose up millions of years ago to cut a bold line between the greener western slope of the Blitzen Valley and the Alvord Desert to the east. Here you find the Kiger, Little Blitzen and Big Indian Gorges, all formed by massive prehistoric glaciers. Come and experience the history and geology unique to the area.
Lake Creek Base Camp is located in the heart of Steens Mountain and is everything you come to the Steens for. It offers a unique experience in fully outfitted, eco-friendly camp environment. The base camp experience is all-inclusive - with comfortable accommodations, shows, gourmet meals, and interpretive information provided. If our base camp activities are not enough to quench your thirst for adventure, join in on one or a combination of our daily outbound adventures. These programs range from two hours to all day. Multiple-day pack trips are also available.
