The Columbia Gorge is a place of spectacular vistas and a variety of recreational opportunities. Viento State Park, located on Interstate 84, 8 miles west of Hood River in the Columbia River Gorge Nat'l Scenic Area, is one of the many state parks in the Columbia Gorge and Mt Hood Region. The name Viento is Spanish for "wind."
Springtime songbirds flit among the broad-leaf trees to forage. Hummingbirds are often observed.
The Viento campground is on the river side of the freeway, (Interstate 84), in a shaded area along a creek with a short hiking trail to Viento Lake. The day-use area has easy access to the Columbia River.
Camping facilities include 57 electrical sites, 18 tent campsites, and fully ADA accessible restroom and shower facilities. Max RV length, 30 feet.
Viento State Park offers some of the best windsurfing in the Gorge, plus a hike along a section of the Historic Columbia River Highway on the Historic Columbia River Highway State Trail. Ranger-led interpretive programs are offered on summer weekends.
Quality experiences await visitors to more than 200 state parks managed for the public by the Oregon State Parks.
