Oregon's northern latitude brings long hours of summer sunshine to its vineyards to fully ripen grapes for very high quality and award winning wines. Oregon is second only to California for the number of wineries in production.
The majority of wineries and vineyards in Oregon are located in the Willamette Valley Regions with
Regions in the Umpqua, Rogue, and Applegate Valleys being recognized areas with smaller, but equally significant, concentrations of wineries.
The Columbia Gorge Region and other areas of the state are home to a few wineries and distilleries that are quickly gaining popularity as well.
The northwest portion of Oregon is celebrated for its cool-climate grape varieties, including Pinot Gris, Riesling, Chardonnay, and especially Pinot noir.
