Established in December of 1853 Tillamook is home to 24,100 people. The county is 1,125 square miles and receives an annual rainfall of almost 100 inches in some areas. The county seat is Tillamook.
The famous Tillamook Burn began in the county. The burned-over area has regrown into second growth Douglas fir and will soon be again a major source of timber for the region.
Highway 101 runs through the county and connects the northern communities of Manzanita, Nehalem, Wheeler, and Rockaway Beach as well Garibaldi and Bay City on the shores of Tillamook Bay. In the south, the Three Capes Scenic Loop is the scenic alternative.
