Eckley is located in Luzerne County south of Wilkes-Barre along Highway 940 near the Lehigh River and Hickory Run State Park.
Eckley is a small town with a lot of history. The village was originally an anthracite mining town, and is still occupied by miners and their families. Eckley is one of hundreds of company mining towns built during the 19th century in the anthracite region of northeastern Pennsylvania.
Eckley was sold to the Anthracite Historical Site Museum, Inc and is now a museum devoted to the miners and their families. The village had over 1,000 residents in 1870, although today, only a handful remain. Guided tours are available.
Eckley is part of the Scranton--Wilkes-Barre--Hazleton metro area.
