Huntingdon is located in Huntingdon County, of which it is the county seat, east of Altoona in central Pennsylvania along Highway 22 on the banks of the Little Juniata River near Raystown Lake.
Huntingdon is situated on the site of a famous old Indian village called Standinig Stone, named for an obelisk or stone totem pole that stood at the site through the mid-1700s.
