Hampton County was named for Civil War general and later governor, Wade Hampton. The museum is housed in a 115-yr-old jail and features a military room, a genealogical research room, a country store, and other items relating to the county's history and natural history. The museum is free to the public and is open Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until noon and 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., and Sunday from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m.
