Hartsville is located in Darlington County northwest of Florence between Lancaster and Darlington along Highway 15 near Lake Robinson. Hartsville is home of the Coker College campus.
In 1817, Thomas Edward Hart, of Society Hill, purchased approximately 8,000 acres of land along Black Creek. He and his wife, Hannah Lide Hart, established their plantation along the cliffs of the Black Creek. The area later became Hartsville, as the Harts played an instrumental part in developing the city.
There are countless recreation opportunities as well as many city parks including Centennial Park and Lawton Park.
