The small interpretive museum features examples of different habitats from the 17,500 acre Hobcaw Barony and a timeline covering its rich past. Come discover local sea life with at the salt-water touch tank or watch two young alligators swim in a freshwater aquarium. Guests have the opportunity to explore many environments with various items on the touch table from a pine knot used as a torch during plantation days to whale vertebrae.
The history room is a timeline revealing the rich past of Hobcaw Barony. Shown in this room are Indian artifacts found on the property, a pictorial history of naval stores, a wall exhibiting the rice culture and its African influence, and pictures of the Baruch family that preserved the Hobcaw Barony heritage.
From Myrtle Beach, take Highway 17 south about 35 miles. Hobcaw Barony will be on the left one mile past DeBordieu.
The Center is open Monday through Friday from 10:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m.
