Rock Hill is located in York County north of Columbia between Fort Mill and Great Falls along Interstate 77 on the banks of the Catawba River near the North Carolina state line. The home of Winthrop University.

The City, founded in 1852 and incorporated in 1892, is located in the eastern central area of York County, South Carolina, 25 miles south of Charlotte, North Carolina. Winthrop University has been in Rock Hill since 1886. Winthrops 100-acre tree-lined main campus is complemented by a nearby 450 acre sports and recreation facility. A main attraction of Rock Hill is Glencairn Gardens. This six-acre, award winning park is artistically landscaped with dogwoods, flowering shrubs, bulbs, and more than 3,000 azaleas.
