Ranging in elevation from 3300 feet to 7242 at Harney Peak, Black Hills National Forest covers more than 1.2 million acres in the scenic Black Hills of South Dakota and Wyoming.
Various scenic drives are available, such as Peter Norbeck Scenic Byway and Iron Mountain Road with views of Mount Rushmore framed by tunnels.
A visitor center at Pactola Reservoir provides information about the history and management of the forest, including wildlife, scenery and recreation areas.
The forest headquarters are in Custer.
