Dewey Ghost Town

Search Custer South Dakota

Dewey was a busy cattle-shipping and commercial center for the western Black Hills in the early 1900s when cattle were shipped to market by rail. When trucks took over cattle shipping, Dewey started to decline. No residents now, but a few deserted business houses remain on the former main street.

It can be reached without 4WD in good weather, by finding Teepee Canyon southwest of Custer and south of US 16.
