The ghost town of Farmingdale rests on the banks of Rapid Creek in Pennington County, and right on Hwy 44 east out of Rapid City. Several houses, a school, a junkyard, and an abandoned railroad grade remain.
The Milwaukee Road helped establish the town in the early 1900s, and its abandonment in 1980 was the last straw.
In 2002, it still showed as a a dot on the South Dakota map, but no longer had its own ZIP code.
