This maritime county is located in southeast Scotland, bounded on the north by the Firth of Forth, on the east by the North Sea, on the south by Berwickshire, and west by Midlothian. It covers an area of 276 square miles.
Along the south of the county extend theLammermuir Hills, culminating in Says Law at 1749 feet. The Tyne, the largest river, rises in the Lammermuirs and flows 16 miles into the Firth of Forth.
Haddington, the county town, is on the Tyne, 17 miles east of Edinburgh. Coastal towns include Dunbar, Tantallon, and North Berwick.
Roman antiquities can be found in the county, including the remains of walls and camps. The 41-mile coast has many noted golf courses laid out along it.
