Kinross is an inland county of west central Scotland, bounded on the east and south by Fifeshire, west by Clackmannanshire, and north by Perthshire. It is the second smallest Scottish county in area and the smallest in population.
The shire has a fertile central plain containing Loch Leven, which is surrounded by the Ochills and the East Lomonds. The Leven, the chief river, flows from Loch Leven into Fifeshire. The chief town and county seat is Kinross, situated at the west end of Loch Leven.
