The American Museum of Miniature Arts is a 17,800 square foot space located on the first three levels of a renovated warehouse in Dallas' West End. Housing exhibition galleries, meeting rooms, workshop, lecture hall, gift shop, reference library, and administrative spaces, the museum is designed to handle a variety of functions. Immediately upon entrance to the ground floor gift shop, a thin suspended steel plate stair entices one to journey upward. Arriving at the second floor, a large gallery space welcomes the participant to a world of miniatures. Beyond, lie a series of smaller, more intimate galleries further focusing the audience. Fiber optic lighting accentuates displays in conjunction with conventional overhead track lighting. Winding up a second stair leads to the third floor rotating collection as well as library and meeting spaces. Displays, both static and interactive, overwhelm the senses in a world of intricate attention to detail.
