Pioneer settlers in the early 1870s built adobe huts and irrigation ditches along creeks in the area. Later, the bustling town of Old Tascosa was known as the "Cowboy Capital of the Plains." However, after the ranch was fenced and the railroad bypassed the town, it withered away and was deserted by the 1930s. At that time, the late Cal Farley, a Texas businessman, established Boys Ranch for boys and girls who benefit from guidance, affectionate discipline, and education in a ranch setting on the Canadian River. The ranch today covers 10,600 acres, and hosts an annual rodeo.
In Oldham County, it is found northwest of Amarillo off US 385.
