Comfort is located just northwest of San Antonio between Boerne and Mountain Home on I-10 on the banks of the Guadalupe River. Comfort was established in 1854 by predominantly German immigrants. There are well over 100 structures in the area dating back to the 1800s. The population of the unincorporated town was over 1,400 in 1980, when the post office, established in 1856, still existed. In 1990 the population was 1,477. Even so, it is the second largest town in Kendall County.
