Kingsland is located northwest of Austin on Ranch Road 1431 between Hwys 29 and 71 at the junction of the Colorado and Llano Rivers south of Lake Buchanan in Llano County. Opportunities afforded by the Highland Lakes for retirement and recreational businesses had bolstered Kingsland by the mid-1960s as an regional commercial center, and in 1986 it had numerous businesses, including a national bank, and a population of 1,500. In 1990 the population was 2,725.
